August 14, 2024

Hi everyone! It feels nice to be writing to you all again after several weeks out of town and with very little access to fresh – let alone local – produce. It is a good reminder of how lucky we are to have access to such delicious, lovingly grown food. I am always amazed by the magic that our local farmers can coax out of the high desert soil. They create these oases of abundance that we are so lucky to benefit from and support. I’ve said it many times before and will say it countless times in the future, but I am so thankful for our local growers.

I was very sad to miss out on Whipstone Farm’s first batch of carrots, so I am absolutely thrilled that we have more in this week’s basket. My kids ask for these carrots all year long because they are so sweet and crisp that grocery store carrots taste like cardboard in comparison. Likewise, farm fresh tomatoes are a revelation compared to the year-round varieties that most people are accustomed to. These tomatoes are so fresh that you eat them alone with a dash of salt and pepper and nothing else. I am so grateful for these bursts of flavor!

And speaking of flavor, we have peaches from Sedona’s Gratitude Orchard this week. I am looking forward to cooking these up into a cobbler with the blackberries I picked in Oak Creek Canyon this weekend. The tastes of summer are in full force this week and I hope you are loving it as much as I am.

Have a delightful week!
Meghan
