October 5, 2022

It is our penultimate week of the CSA season and it feels like it has flown by so quickly! We have had such a fabulous season and this week is no different. Cucumbers and green beans are still hanging on to bring us a last taste of summer. And after a long season of preparation, spaghetti squash has finally arrived. This is one of my favorite fall crops, with its unique texture and mild flavor. I will include a spaghetti squash recipe below if you aren’t quite sure how to prepare it. Sunflower sprouts and arugula bring some greens to the table this week and we also get a special treat: pecans! Camp Verde is known for its pecan orchards and we always try to add fresh pecans to our shares at the beginning and end of each season when produce is less abundant. If you don’t plan on eating your pecans right away, you can store them in the freezer to maintain their freshness and delicious flavor.

As the CSA season comes to a close and we must begin picking our own produce again, I am grateful that we have thriving farmers’ markets and local food resources in our area. For produce, I rely on Interdependence Natural Foods and Sedona Community Farmers’ Market through the winter. Most produce needs can be met between the two, and both have a good selection of other local foods as well. You can find pecans, mushrooms, honey, herbs, cheese, and more at these locations. Other local food resources can be found on our Local Food Guide.

Please don’t forget to reserve your spot for the 2023 CSA season as soon as possible. You can sign up online here. Beginning on November 12th, I will reach out to those on our waitlist to fill any remaining spots. If you would prefer to mail in a physical contract, you can print out the Early Bird Contract or pick one up at CSA distribution this week. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a wonderful week!
Meghan
