August 26, 2020

We finally got some rain! Hooray! This season has certainly had some unusual weather, but the produce remains on point. Our share this week is a perfect picture of summer. I’m so excited to make some caprese salad, quick cucumber pickles, and tasty salads. Each week I am reminded how lucky we are to have access to delicious, local, fresh produce.

Shanti Rade, in this week’s Whipstone Farm newsletter, spoke about the farm workers in California right now working in extreme heat, wearing masks to protect against Covid, and breathing in smoky, unhealthy air. Farming is an incredibly hard job on the best of days, and these workers are doing the unbelievably important task of feeding our country in the most difficult conditions. We are so grateful to all farmers for doing this necessary work. So continue to support your local farmers through the CSA, farmers’ markets, farm stands, and local grocery stores. This network of resources can connect you to almost all the food you need, all while keeping it local.

This is the last week of Whipstone Farm’s flower share. We hope those of you who have been receiving flowers have loved them as much as we do. The Whipstone crew does such an amazing job growing a wide variety of gorgeous flowers and we are so happy to support this part of their farm. If you are looking for their flowers after the flower share ends, you can find them at Interdependence Natural Foods in Sedona and the farmers’ markets in Flagstaff and Prescott.

Have a lovely week!
Meghan
