August 29, 2018

These past few weeks have been a little wet at distribution, don’t you think? The rains have been absolutely beautiful, and so badly needed, but they do make things a little rough for our incredible volunteers. Jeanette and Jon in Sedona, and Skip, Terri, Hope, Hilary, and Denise in Cornville have been braving these cold, wet storms and the hot afternoons that came before them to distribute your shares every week. We are so, so grateful to them for being such a critical link in the chain of the CSA. We hope that you all can take a chance to thank them for being there each week and filling your baskets with love and care.

This week we get to enjoy some apples, green beans, and bell peppers, which I am so excited about. It’s always fun when new items come into season and are ripe and ready to eat. I will be doing my annual apple picking this week so I can dry plenty of apples for snacks throughout the year. I usually make a year’s worth of applesauce too, but I went a little overboard last year, so I am looking for some new recipes. In the past we have canned apple chutney, apple butter, and apple pie filling as well. Do you have any suggestions for me? I pick my apples at a business in the Village of Oak Creek. There are trees all over Sedona and the Verde Valley that are just waiting to be picked. Don’t be shy about asking landowners if you can fill a bag from their trees.

This is the last week of our flower share, and I will definitely be missing those beautiful bouquets. Thank you to Shanti and the flower crew at Whipstone Farm for an incredible season of fresh, local flowers! Whipstone’s flowers are also for sale at Interdependence Natural Foods in Sedona and at the Flagstaff Farmers’ Market, so you can continue to get your flower fix into the Fall.

Have a great week!
Meghan
