Good morning everyone! This is a very exciting week because the first of a plentiful harvest of fruit is making its way into our baskets. We have not one, but two types of fruit this week: apricots and nectarines! The Verde Valley is full of fruit trees not just on farms, but in yards and at businesses throughout the area. If you have a hankering for more fruit to preserve or enjoy fresh, keep your eyes peeled as you drive through neighborhoods and don’t be too shy to ask if you can pick some. Most people are overwhelmed by their fruit trees and so much goes to waste. Organizations such as Manzanita Outreach are always looking for fresh produce to distribute as well, so if you are the owner of any fruit trees you may want to consider offering some of your bounty to those less fortunate.

This week’s basket also has our first cured garlic of the season. This is just like the garlic you buy from the store and can be kept at room temperature for many weeks or even months. We will also be getting onions from Bob Haskell’s farm again this week. Head lettuce and salad mix round out the basket, continuing to slake our thirst for fresh greens on these hot days. We sure need it!

Have a fun week!
Meghan
