June 14, 2023

We are enjoying the mildest June in my memory, and I’m sure our farmers are grateful to have a reprieve from the typical searing June heat. The plants surely are as well. This week we have more spring greens and root veggies to fill your basket. New this time around is purple daikon radish. Daikon radishes are crisp and resemble large carrots. Their flavor is milder than that of other radish varieties and can be slightly sweet with a little spice. They can be eaten fresh with dip, on salads, in slaw, and are great in homemade kimchi. They can also be roasted and added to stir fry dishes. I have included a recipe below if you’re not sure what to do with them.

Flower shares begin this week! Those of you signed up for a flower share are in for a treat. These beautiful bouquets are grown at Whipstone Farm and head floral farmer, Shanti Rade, has become well known for her knack for growing incredible flowers. We are so blessed to have access to locally grown flowers. If any of you without a flower share want to buy an occasional bouquet, Whipstone’s flowers are also sold at Interdependence Natural Foods in Sedona. Information about how to care for your flowers can be found here.

Have a peaceful week!
