Summer crops are getting close! This week we have our first shishito peppers of the season. These peppers are delicious when blistered in a hot skillet with a little lemon juice and sea salt on top, but they can be used like other mild peppers as well. Tomatoes are going to be late this year due to the late frost and cool, windy spring weather. Some farms lost hundreds of tomato plants, so we are glad that we’ll be having any tomatoes at all! Enjoy the leafy greens and lettuce while we still have them regularly. It won’t be long until we’ll be missing those.
I just want to remind you all to pick up your shares during the specified window of 4-6pm each Wednesday in Cornville and Sedona. We have had quite a few shares left behind these past few weeks and it has resulted in a lot of extra work for all of us. If you are going to be out of town for a week or two, please find someone who can pick up your share. If you don’t have anyone in mind, offer it on NextDoor or Facebook. It is burdensome for our distribution volunteers to have to take home extra produce and find people/places to donate it to, so we really need all of you to pick up your shares or arrange for someone else to do it in your place. And if you are having trouble remembering, it can help to set a reminder or alarm on your phone each Wednesday. Thanks for helping to simplify the process for our volunteers and for making sure none of this delicious produce goes to waste!
I will be in California for the next two weeks, taking my kids backpacking in Yosemite and visiting some other beautiful spots around the state. I will be out of service at times and will be checking my email less than normal, so please contact Hilary at (928) 592-8886 or [email protected] if you need immediate assistance while I am away. Also, invoices for the second half of the season were emailed a few days ago. Please return your payment promptly, no later than July 13th. If you do not want to continue with your CSA membership for the second half of the season please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your share to someone on our waitlist. Thanks!
Have a fun week!
Meghan
