Those of you who have school-aged children know that this is the last week of summer vacation. How can this be?! It feels like it has just flown by this year. But at least we still have many more weeks of summer produce ahead of us. Early season crops like broccolini and peas have passed and now we are enjoying the hot weather crops like tomatoes, eggplant, cucumber, and peppers. Thanks for your understanding last week when the rain stopped and the return to hot weather made all the broccolini flower, thus the cucumbers you received instead. Sometimes the weather has no consideration for our plans and we simply can’t control the weather or how the plants will respond.
All the rain has been a boon to the crops, but now the farmers have to contend with the weeds left behind! So send some good wishes to all our farmers this week while you enjoy the fruits of their labor. They are out in the heat and humidity planting, weeding, harvesting, and preparing this produce every day. Thank you to all of them for putting this incredible food on our tables!
Enjoy your week!
