Welcome to the 12th season of Verde Valley CSA! To our new members, welcome and thank you for supporting local farmers. We are so excited to serve you this season. And to all our returning shareholders, thank you for your continued support of our growers.

We hope you are ready for some greens! This time of year is all about kale, spinach, lettuce, bok choy, and crops that prefer the cooler weather. Although we will most likely enjoy salad all season long, there will come a time when we don’t see kale for a while, so enjoy the leafy greens while you can. Root crops also abound this early in the season, and Whipstone Farm’s carrots are as good as it gets. I’ve been buying bags of these at Interdependence Foods (they carry an abundance of Whipstone Farm’s produce!) over the last few months and they are top notch.

This year we are excited to offer shareholders access to additional locally grown and made items. Those of you who were with us last year may already be familiar with Verde Gardener’s salves and skin care products, as well as Willowbrook Farm’s jams, sauerkraut, and pecans. We have had some of these items available in Cornville in years past, but now we will have them for Sedona members too! You can check out the website that Verde Gardener and Willowbrook Farm are sharing here. Ordered items will be brought to CSA distributions for you to pick up. Contact Susan or Denisefor more information.

Please remember to bring your reusable bags to take home your share. If you are unsure of where exactly to pick up your share, contact me at verdevalleycsa@yahoo.com or (928) 300-8623. For those of you picking up your shares in Camp Verde, if you are unable to make it to the farm during the listed distribution time your share will be left in a cooler with your name on it. If you have any extra reusable bags, please consider donating them to Verde Valley Farmers’ Market, which is beginning its first year as a plastic bag-free market. You can drop extra bags off to our volunteers during distribution.

If you haven’t already, please follow Verde Valley CSA on Facebook. I will be sharing photos and bits of information throughout the season and hope to offer you a closer look at the workings of the farms growing your food.

Thank you all for being members of Verde Valley CSA! We look forward to another great year providing the freshest local produce, flowers, and eggs.

Have a fabulous week!
Meghan
