June 7, 2017

I hope that all of you got to enjoy the amazing rain this past week. We sure needed it! Lots of crops are still going in the ground, including peppers, sweet potatoes, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and lots more. It will be this way for the entire season, but these few first hot weeks are extra busy, as farmers can plant many of the warm weather crops we look forward to enjoying later in the summer. There is so much to look forward to. Thanks to the amazing farmers who are working hard out in this heat ensuring that we will enjoy so much delicious goodness all season long!

This week is all about “b” crops – basil, beets, blackberries, and bok choy will grace your baskets. Blackberries are such a treat this time of year, and it will most likely be the only time they will be in our shares. It is also a root crop week, with radishes, salad turnips, and beets. You can enjoy these cool crisp vegetables fresh or cooked, combined or separate. And if turnips or radishes are not usually your favorites, try looking online for recipes. I loved some of the recipes I found last year for cooked salad turnips, instead of just slicing them up for green salads. Expand your horizons and try to find new ways to enjoy these tried and true favorites.

Have a lovely week!
Meghan
