With only one more week to go, we have been doing a lot of thinking about where we are going to source local food this winter. Luckily, there are plenty of options! Sedona Community Farmers Market will begin their winter season on November 8th in the parking lot of Wells Fargo Bank on the corner of Shelby Dr. and 89A. The market is every Sunday from 12-4pm and will run all the way through the start of our next CSA season.
If you are in the market for a CSA this winter, you have two options. Former VVCSA grower Diane Scantlebury of Tickaboo Ranch will begin her winter CSA in mid-November. Each week she will let you know what she has available and you can order what you like and pick it up at Windmill Park in Cornville on Wednesday afternoons. If you are interested in Diane’s CSA, please email her.
Our former Director, Sandy Boyce, is arranging a winter CSA from Blue Sky Organic Farms in Litchfield Park. Blue Sky offers three different sizes for their weekly shares. Members must give a 12-week commitment, but can put their share on hold when they are out of town. A minimum of 25 shareholders are needed for Blue Sky to deliver to Sedona each Wednesday, so please contact Sandy at (928) 203-1100 if you are interested. You can sign up for the CSA here.
Denise Domning of The Farm on Oak Creek in Page Springs has posted an order form for Thanksgiving turkeys. Her turkeys roam her lush acreage as free as can be and are quite a sight to behold (she has ~140 of them!). Plan ahead and order now to get the best turkey you will ever eat.
If you haven’t checked it out already, our Verde Valley Local Food Guide is a growing list of local food resources. Please let me know if you have any farms to add.
There is still time to return the early bird contract, along with a $50 deposit, if you would like to sign up for the CSA again next year. We will bring contracts along with the produce this week (sorry they didn’t make it to Sedona last week). Open enrollment will begin on October 15, so save your spot for next season now! Thanks to those of you who have already returned your contracts.
We will be hosting our annual end-of-the-season appetizer potluck next Wednesday during CSA pickup at both the Cornville and Sedona locations. Please bring an appetizer (or anything yummy) to share and enjoy a chance to meet other shareholders. The Willowbrook contingent will be at Windmill Park and I will be in Sedona. Mark your calendars!
